Understanding watermark options with Pixify

Explore the watermarking options that Pixify offers for your product images to safeguard your digital content.

Pixify offers two methods for applying watermarks to your product images, giving you the control to customize how you protect and display your content.

Method one: Single watermarked image

By default, Pixify makes a downsized product image from your uploaded content and applies a watermark. Shopify uses this watermarked image for the product detail page and the thumbnail displayed in collections. While this method is universally compatible with all Shopify themes, some users prefer not to have watermarks on thumbnails, especially when multiple watermarked thumbnails are displayed together, which can look cluttered.

Method two: Dual image generation - with and without watermark

This option allows Pixify to create two versions of your product image: one with a watermark and another without it for thumbnail use. This is particularly useful for aesthetic reasons, as it avoids redundant watermarking in product grids. However, note that this method isn't natively supported by Shopify themes. It may require additional customization or code adjustments to function correctly. If you're utilizing Pixify's theme app blocks for your product and collection pages, the correct images will display automatically.

Choose the watermarking method that aligns best with your brand's aesthetics and security needs.

Here you can see a guide on how to enable dual image generation - with and without watermark.

What is Pixify?

Pixify is a dedicated Shopify app crafted for photographers and digital content creators who want to sell their work directly to customers.

Pixify serves as a bridge between your creative assets and a self-hosted online store, allowing you to bypass middlemen and take home 100% of your royalties. With Pixify, you can easily upload, manage, and monetize your photography and video content while leveraging the robust features and scalability of Shopify's e-commerce platform. Whether you're a seasoned professional or just getting started, Pixify offers a streamlined, user-friendly way to turn your digital creations into a profitable business.

Our Mission

Our mission is to empower photographers and content creators to take full control of their digital assets and revenue streams. We believe in a world where creators should be able to connect directly with their audience without intermediaries taking a cut. Through Pixify, we aim to provide a simple yet powerful platform that allows you to set up your own e-commerce store, set your prices, and grow your brand on your own terms. We're committed to creating a sustainable, hassle-free way for you to showcase your hard work and creativity, and to earn what you truly deserve.

Keywords vs Shopify tags

In Pixify, we refer to "keywords" for content management, aligning with terminology familiar to content creators. However, these keywords are integrated into Shopify as "tags," which is Shopify's standard terminology. Although the terms differ, they essentially serve the same purpose across both platforms.

Keywords / tags are not natively shown in Shopify themes - but if you use the Product tags app block from Pixify in the theme editor, you can have keywords shown on your product page.

Tags module in Pixify

When you select an uploaded piece of content in Pixify, you can open the Additional options tab, and here you'll also find a Tags option. This behaves slightly different than keywords. These are added to the content, but not shown under the Product tags app block from Pixify.

These tags are useful if you want to display certain content uniquely. For example, you could add a "premium" tag and then code your theme to showcase products with this tag differently.

Getting Started with Pixify in 20 minutes

Starting your online store with Pixify is a straightforward process. To make things easier, we recommend focusing on three essential steps to get you up and running quickly.

1. Setting up watermark (5 minutes)

Pixify offers watermarking features to safeguard your content. You can upload a watermark image within the app interface and specify its opacity and size.

2. Configuring your first pricelist (5 minutes)

Next, you'll want to determine how you'll price your content. Our Pricelists feature allows you to categorize your content under specific lists with predetermined pricing structures. Whether it's by license type or file format, you set the rates. Any future changes to a pricelist will automatically update pricing for all associated products, making bulk changes straightforward.

3. Uploading your first batch of content (5 minutes)

Finally, it's time to populate your store. Pixify simplifies this by allowing bulk uploads. Just choose the images you'd like to sell, and our system will automatically create individual products for each within your Shopify store.

4. Customizing your storefront (5 minutes)

Pixify integrates seamlessly with Shopify's powerful theme editor, allowing you to personalize your digital storefront. There are more than ten customizable theme blocks available to adjust the look and feel of your digital store. Shopify also offers a marketplace for developers if you require more advanced customizations.

Modifying the Product Page

Here we outline the steps to modify the product page on a Shopify store using the Pixify app blocks.

Pixify Affiliate Program

Join our Affiliate Program and benefit from sharing the Pixify experience. Earn commission while helping your network get premium services at a discounted rate.

Benefits for You and Your Network

Joining our affiliate program is a win-win situation! Your referrals will get a 50% discount on their Pixify subscription for the first three months. Meanwhile, you'll bag the other half of their subscription fee during the same period. For example, if your referral chooses our Pro Plan at $69/month, you'll receive $34.50 monthly for the first three months of their subscription.

Earn More as You Refer More

The more people you introduce to Pixify, the greater your rewards. Here’s how the earnings structure scales:

  • Level 1: Refer 0-3 people and earn 50% commission for 3 months.

  • Level 2: Refer 4-10 people and extend your 50% commission to 4 months.

  • Level 3: Refer 11-20 people and extend your 50% commission to 5 months.

  • Level 4: Refer 20+ people and enjoy a 50% commission for 6 months.

Terms & Conditions

We believe in keeping things simple. So here are the basics:

  • You'll be eligible for your affiliate earnings once your referral's subscription payment is complete.

  • Your earnings depend on the longevity of your referrals' subscriptions. If a referral cancels, you'll earn for the months they've paid for.

How It Works

We'll provide you with a unique affiliate link to keep track of your efforts. Share this link with your network, and when someone registers using your link, they'll receive a discount code via email. We'll match the email and code to ensure the referral is valid. Your unique link will be something like: https://affiliate.pixify.io/yourusername

Payouts

We're still fine-tuning the details around payouts, but rest assured, we'll make the process as seamless as possible when the time comes.

Steps to Sign Up:

  1. Express your interest: Fill out this Sign-Up Form to let us know you want to become a Pixify affiliate.

  2. Wait for confirmation: We will review your application. Once approved, you will receive a confirmation email.

  3. Receive your affiliate link: The confirmation email will include your unique affiliate link. This is the link you'll share with your network to earn commissions.

  4. Start sharing: Share your affiliate link with your network via social media, emails, or directly. Whenever someone signs up using your link, both you and your referral will benefit according to the terms stated in our affiliate program.

  5. Track your referrals (not available yet): Log in to your Pixify Affiliate account page to track the number of people using your referral link and see your earnings.

  6. Wait for payout: As we are in the testing phase, the specifics of payouts are being finalized. You will be updated as soon as the payout process is set.

Understanding Shopify variants and the 50,000 variant limit

What are Shopify variants?

In Shopify, a variant is a unique combination of options for a particular product. Let's say you're selling a T-shirt in multiple sizes and colors; each size and color combination would be considered a 'variant' of that product. So if there were 2 colors and 3 sizes, the T-shirt product would have 6 variants (2 x 3). Variants help to organize your store and make it easier for customers to shop for exactly what they want.

When selling content, a product might be an image, whereas the variants would be the unique combinations on your pricelist. E.g. if you sell each image with three different license options, each product would have 3 variants.

The 50,000 variant limit

Once your store has 50,000 variants, Shopify imposes a daily upload limit for adding new variants. Specifically, you can only add up to 1,000 new variants daily through app integrations or CSV file imports. This limit is in place to ensure optimal performance for all Shopify stores, even those with extensive inventories.

Good to know: There are no variant limits on Shopify Plus plans.

Queuing files for automatic upload the next day

We are looking at developing a feature to automatically queue images for upload the next day if you hit the 1,000 new variants daily limit.

App Blocks from Pixify

Learn how Shopify App Blocks provide an easy and flexible way to customize your storefront, irrespective of your theme.

The Power of Shopify App Blocks

Shopify App Blocks are dynamic elements that allow you to add custom functionalities or content to your online storefront. These blocks act like building blocks, enhancing your storefront's capabilities without restricting you to the limitations of your chosen theme.

Why App Blocks are Crucial for Pixify Users

The essence of Pixify lies in providing a seamless, tailored experience for digital content sellers. That's why Pixify fully integrates with Shopify App Blocks to allow custom elements like a unique product page, unique displays of metadata, and unique product grids.

How to implement App Blocks

  1. Navigate to your Theme Editor: Go to your Shopify dashboard and then to 'Online Store' > 'Themes'. Here, you can access the theme editor.

  2. Add a new section: Once inside the editor, look for the 'Add a new section' option. You'll find a range of Pixify-specific App Blocks you can add here.

  3. Customize the block: After choosing the App Block you want to add, you'll see a set of customizable settings. You can modify these to suit your individual needs.

  4. Preview and save: Always preview changes to ensure they reflect your vision. Once you're happy, save the changes.

Uploading your first batch of content

Upload batches allow you to upload and manage your content in an organized and structured way. When uploading content to Pixify, you have to create a batch, essentially a group of files uploaded together.

Each batch has its name and other relevant details. Batches enable you to group your content uploads and associate pricelists to batches instead of individual files. If you are a photographer or videographer, uploading all your content from a single photoshoot or production into a batch can be particularly useful. Once your content is uploaded, you can still mix it into different collections on Shopify.

Batches are the only way to upload content to Pixify, and they are essential to keeping your content organized.

Good to know: We recommend adding no more than 200 files per batch for optimal performance in Pixify.

Please see more details about creating a batch below:

  • Creating a batch

  • Removing a pricelist

  • Changing pricelists on products

Creating a batch

This is the place to start to create a new batch. Here's a brief overview of the input fields on this page:

Details

Upload batch title: The name of your batch in Pixify. This name will only reflect in Pixify unless you tick the box below.

Create a Shopify collection for batch: If you tick this box, the batch will be created as a Shopify collection.

Pricelist

Here, you select what pricelist to associate with the batch.

Photoshoot

The Photoshoot section in Pixify allows you to create a Shopify collection that contains all the content from a specific shoot. You can name the collection in the backend and also choose a name that will appear visible to your store customers. Photographers often organize their projects with specific names, like "2023-11-20 - Lilly's Bridal Shower". However, they may prefer the front-facing collection name on the store to simply be "Lilly's Bridal Shower".

So in short, this setting creates a Shopify collection where you can use a backend name for yourself and a front-facing name for your visitors.

Photoshoot name: The name of the collection that will be visible to visitors of your store.

Photoshoot ID: The backend name, e.g. "2023-11-20 - Lilly's Bridal Shower". This will only be visible to you in the Shopify backend.

Please note: This feature requires using Pixify App Blocks to show collections in your online store.

Models

The Models section in Pixify allows you to create a Shopify collection containing all the content from a specific model into the collection. So, if you use the same model across multiple batches or photoshoots, they'll all automatically be collected into the collection with the name of

The name of this collection in Shopify will be "Model: Name of model". If you use Pixify App Blocks to show collections, we'll show a different name in the storefront, which will be "Name of model".

We obscure surnames on the storefront, so if you input Jane Doe, the name displayed will be Jane D.

Product vendor name

If you have multiple vendors in your store, use this field to define the vendor for this batch.

Setting up watermark

To add or change an existing watermark, head to Settings, and under the tab Media and Watermark, you'll find the option to add or change your existing watermark.

Here, you have the following options:

Uploading a new watermark

When uploading a new watermark, we recommend using a PNG file with a transparent background. It generally looks best with a monotone or black-and-white watermark, as this prevents colour clashes with your uploaded content.

There's no need to add any opacity to your actual watermark, as this can be added in our settings.

Good to know: Your uploaded watermark is only applied to new content uploaded, and not to existing content. If you'd like to upload your existing content with your new watermark, send us an email, and we update the existing content for you.

Watermark example file

If you need a template for your watermark, download the file below and replace the logo with your logo or text.

Remove a watermark

Remove your watermark by clicking "Remove watermark". Note that this does not remove your watermark from content that you've already updated. This requires all your product thumbnails to be regenerated. If you need help with this, please send us an email.

Watermark options

In the watermark options window, you have different options to play around with the appearance of your watermark while you preview the watermark on one of your product images. You can shuffle the preview image to see how your watermark looks on different content in your online store.

How Pixify integrates with Shopify

Here's a technical overview of how Pixify integrates with Shopify to offer a seamless experience for selling digital content such as images and videos.

Pre-Publish phase

When you first upload your content within the Pixify app, all data related to digital content resides exclusively on Pixify's servers during the pre-publish phase. This includes metadata, image thumbnails, and the original files you upload.

Publishing products

Once you click "Publish" on a product or multiple products within Pixify, the data is packaged and sent to Shopify. Shopify will then create a new product entry containing all this data. Thumbnails and watermarked images are also sent to Shopify. This is a one-way sync from Pixify to Shopify. Shopify won’t receive updates unless you republish changes from Pixify.

After publishing products

After publishing, a copy of all the data is stored on Shopify's servers. This ensures that the data your customers see is incredibly reliable, hosted directly from Shopify itself. Even if Pixify is removed, the products will remain in Shopify. However, the actual digital files for purchase would not be accessible as they require an active link to Pixify.

If you're selling videos, please know that Shopify has hosting limits for video thumbnails on your product pages. For that reason, Pixify hosts the video files for streaming previews in your storefront.

Making changes

If you make changes to products within Shopify - e.g. changing prices, adding tags, or changing descriptions, this will not be synced over to Pixify. Think of it as a one-way sync. If you make any changes to products within Shopify, these changes will be rewritten if you republish any changes from within Pixify. So if you need to make changes to your products, always do it within Pixify and then save and publish your changes.

Good to know: Always make changes to your products within Pixify and not from Shopify, as Pixify can overwrite these changes.

Upon checkout

When a customer initiates a checkout, Shopify requests Pixify to provide a download link for the purchased digital content. The original files are stored on Pixify's AWS storage and are sent directly to the customer upon successful payment.

Customizing your storefront

Our Pricelists feature is designed to simplify the management of prices and licenses for large numbers of products in your store. With Pricelists, you can easily define which product variants you want to sell, and each pricelist is associated with an upload batch in Pixify. This makes it much easier to keep track of the products you're selling and ensure that they're priced correctly. You can create multiple pricelists for different types of content.

  • Adding download link in checkout

  • Adding account page download links

  • Customizing your theme with app blocks

Configuring your first pricelist

Our Pricelists feature is designed to simplify the management of prices and licenses for large numbers of products in your store. With Pricelists, you can easily define which product variants you want to sell, and each pricelist is associated with an upload batch in Pixify. This makes it much easier to keep track of the products you're selling and ensure that they're priced correctly. You can create multiple pricelists for different types of content.

Creating a pricelist

When you install or open Pixify, you'll see that we've included a default pricelist consisting of a standard license and an extended license. This is necessary because every content item must be linked to a pricelist.

You can use this pricelist as your first pricelist, or you can create a new one from scratch. To create a new one, click + Add another pricelist.

Give your pricelist a name, and click continue.

Next, you need to add your first variants.

Add your first options and variants. An option can, for example, be License, and then the variants to that can be "Standard", "Extended" and "Buyout". In the next window, you'll be prompted to set a price for each of the variants.

What are Shopify variants?

In Shopify, a variant is a unique combination of options for a particular product. Let's say you're selling a T-shirt in multiple sizes and colors; each size and color combination would be considered a 'variant' of that product. When selling content, a product might be an image, whereas the variants would be the unique combinations on your pricelist. For example, if you sell each image with three different license options, each product would have 3 variants.

Update existing pricelists

You can update any existing pricelist by clicking "Edit pricelist".

Good to know: When you save updates to a pricelist, Pixify queues all files to be updated. The time it takes depends on the number of products associated with the pricelist, but if you have a lot of products, it can take a few hours to update.

Deleting a pricelist

It is possible to delete a pricelist whenever necessary. However, Pixify requires a pricelist for each product, so there is a built-in mechanism to ensure that any product associated with the pricelist you want to delete is transferred to another pricelist. This guarantees that your products will continue to have an assigned pricelist, even after the original one has been removed.

To remove a pricelist, make sure you are in the pricelist you want to remove, and then simply click More -> Remove pricelist.

When you want to delete a pricelist, you have to choose a different pricelist to move your current products to. Then, type the text into the input field to confirm that you want to delete your current pricelist. It is important to keep in mind that once you delete a pricelist, it cannot be recovered.

Changing pricelists on products

If you want to change the pricelist associated with some of your products, you need to open the batch editor. From here you can change what pricelist is associated with your batch.

It's only possible to change pricelist on batch level, not on individual products.

Discover Pixify Features

Explore the array of features that make Pixify the go-to Shopify app for selling digital content.

Automatic product creation from images or video files

Gone are the days of tedious product listings. With Pixify, all it takes is uploading the digital content you wish to sell. We handle the rest by automatically converting your images into ready-to-sell Shopify products with all the essential details. This streamlines your workflow, letting you focus on what you do best—creating.

Bulk uploading

Continuing from the ease of automatic product creation, Pixify offers a powerful bulk uploading feature. Imagine uploading a batch of 100 images and having them instantly transformed into individual Shopify products, all within minutes. This is a game-changer for creators with extensive portfolios, saving you both time and effort.

Please note: For stores with over 50,000 variants, you'll be subject to a daily rate limit for uploading new variants. You can add up to 1,000 new variants each day before hitting this limit. If you're a Shopify Plus user, this limit doesn't apply to you.

Metadata import

For creators already using metadata in the form of titles, descriptions, and keywords, Pixify adds another layer of efficiency. Our platform can automatically import this metadata, whether it's embedded as IPTC information in your files or supplied via a CSV file.

Digital delivery upon checkout

When your customer completes their checkout, a download link for the purchased file is automatically generated on the Shopify checkout page. It's seamless and just what your customers would expect.

Watermarking

When you upload your content to Pixify, you can choose to have your unique watermark applied automatically. This provides an added layer of security, safeguarding your original work from unauthorized use. Within the Pixify app, you can customize both the size and opacity to suit your needs.

Pricelists

Instead of manually setting prices for each piece of content, in Pixify, you assign them to a pricelist. Each pricelist can host various licenses or file formats, allowing you to set specific prices for different types of usage.

The best part? Any changes you make to a pricelist are instantly applied to all the associated content. Imagine having 10,000 images you want to reprice; you can do it with just a few clicks.
